Spatial Test Battery Registration

Would you like to take the Spatial Test Battery?

There are two groups of students who may take the Spatial Test Battery. The first group is the 2008 CTY Talent Search Participants who are in the 5th-8th grade. The second group is students who are not participating in this year's talent search, but are in grades 5th-11th. Details for both groups are below. The STB is not an open test. As such, you must first register with CTY to obtain an elibility number before you register to test.

GROUP 1: If you have already applied to the 2008 Talent Search (i.e. September 2007-June 2008) and you are in the 5th-8th grade, you are now eligible to take the STB. There are two things you will need. First, you must obtain a 7-digit eligibility number from CTY. To obtain your 7-digit eligibility number, you may call (410) 735-6278 or email ctyinfo@jhu.edu (include child's name and address). The eligibility number will identify you to our computer testing contractor as a current year Talent Search Participant. The eligibility number must be used before June 30th or it will expire.

The second thing you will need to test is the STB Bulletin that will provide you with instructions on how to register to test (via the web or a 1-800 number, $75.00 testing fee applies) and will explain the test format. The STB Bulletin is mailed to you in your registration packet. If you need another copy of the STB Bulletin you may download the 2008 STB Bulletin and follow the registration instructions on the last page of the STB Bulletin. You will need Adobe Acrobat to open the STB Bulletin. You can download a free version from Adobe.

You may also request a printed copy of the STB Bulletin at the same time you request your 7-digit eligibility number and CTY will mail a copy to you.

GROUP 2: Follow these instructions if you are a 5th-11th grader and you are NOT participating in the 2008 Talent Search (i.e. September 2007-June 2008). To register, please fill out the Application for Spatial Test Battery (STB) Testing Materials form and mail the form and the $25.00 processing fee to the address on the form. You will need Adobe Acrobat to open the Application. You can download a free version from Adobe.

CTY will process your Application and payment and mail you a paper copy of the STB Bulletin and your STB 7-digit eligibility number. Follow the directions in the STB Bulletin that will provide you with instructions on how to register to test (via the web or a 1-800 number, $75.00 testing fee applies) and will explain the test format. You must test before June 30th or the eligibility number will expire.

BOTH GROUPS: Students may take the STB two times during any one academic year. If you have already taken the STB once this academic year and would like to take it again, then follow these directions on the Talent Search FAQ page.

There are different levels of the STB. Fifth and sixth graders take a different level of the STB and do not take the Perspectives subtest. Therefore, students can not use scores attained in the fifth and sixth grade for 7th Grade and Above Summer Programs or CTYOnline courses.

Special testing accommodations are available for students with disabilities. Please visit the Testing with Disabilities web page for more information.

For More Information

For information on how to use your STB scores to qualify for our programs, please review the STB option for 5th and 6th graders and for students in the 7th grade and above. Call (410) 735-6277 for more information.
