Grand Ceremony - Sunday, June 7, 2009

The Grand Ceremony will be hosted at Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 10:30 a.m.  The ceremony will be in the Shriver Hall Auditorium.  A luncheon and special events are planned for after the ceremony.

UPDATE -- 2009

Invitations will be mailed to students at the beginning of April, and all invitations should be in the mail by April 15. Invitations go out in date order, so invitations for the early May ceremonies are mailed first and invitations for the June events are mailed last.

If you think you should have been invited to a ceremony but have not received an invitation by April 20, 2009, please call CTY at 410-735-6278 or email ctyinfo@jhu.edu. When contacting CTY about the ceremony, PLEASE be sure to include the following information, particularly in emails:

Student name
Student ID number if available
Student grade
Student address, city, state, zip


CTY hosts Awards Ceremonies to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Talent Search participants who earn high SCAT, SAT, ACT, or STB scores. These events are for students in grades 2-8 who participated in the 2009 CTY Talent Search, took the specified test or tests for their grade, have met or exceeded the required Awards Ceremony scores, and reside in a state where award ceremonies are hosted.

Ceremonies last approximately an hour to an hour and a half.  Most students dress as they would for a special occassion.  Invited students unable to attend the ceremony will receive their certificates in the mail during the summer.

Please note: Students in grades 2-8 who participated in the 2009 CTY Talent Search, took the specified test or tests for their grade after March 1, 2009, have met or exceeded the required Awards Ceremony scores, and reside in a state where award ceremonies are hosted will be invited to attend 2010 ceremonies or may opt to receive their special Certificate for High Honors certificate in the mail in August 2009 by emailing to ctytalentsearch@jhu.edu by July 15, 2009.


Grand Ceremony

The Grand Ceremony is for students in grades 7-8 who participated in the 2009 CTY Talent Search, took the SAT or ACT prior to March 1, and have met or exceeded the required Grand Ceremony scores (see qualifications below).  Students from around the world are invited to Johns Hopkins University for a special recognition ceremony where they receive a medal honoring their outstanding academic achievements.  Invitations with event details will be mailed by early May.

Grand Ceremony qualifying scores:

Grade 7 SAT: ≥ 700 Critical Reading or ≥ 700 Math 
Grade 7 ACT: 
≥ 28 Math or ≥ 31 Reading
Grade 8 SAT: ≥ 750 Critical Reading or ≥ 750 Math 
Grade 8 ACT: ≥ 32 Math or ≥ 33 Reading

Please note: Students in grades 7-8 who participated in the 2009 CTY Talent Search, took the SAT or ACT after March 1, 2009, and have met or exceeded the required Grand Ceremony scores will be invited to attend the 2010 ceremony or may opt to receive their award in the mail in August 2009 by emailing to ctytalentsearch@jhu.edu by July 15, 2009.
