Founded in 1943 by a group of business people headed by Eugenio Garza Sada, an MIT grad, ITESM is often called the MIT of Latin America. Monterrey, the capital of the state of Nuevo Leon, is a city of 1.1 million located in the Extremadura Valley. Considered the safest and best city in which to do business in Latin America, Monterrey also boasts the highest income of any city in Latin America. The 143 acre ITESM campus is in the heart of Monterrey and includes two landmark buildings: the main library and the Center for Sustainable Development (CETEC). Nestled against the foothills of the Sierra Madre Oriental, the Tecnologico has cultivated a culture of educational innovation that combines hands-on, problem-based learning, supported by the newest technologies and imbued with a humanistic, activist spirit. Courses at the Monterrey site are available for students who will have completed grades 9-12 by the summer of 2008. |
