Welcome to the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) Hong Kong University of Science and Technology new joint program in Hong Kong—a three-week residential and commuter summer program for academically talented middle and high school students in grades 7 through 9/years 8 through 10 in 13 year schools. Based at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), a world-class university located on Clear Water Bay in Kowloon, the Johns Hopkins CTY Hong Kong University of Science and Technology joint program - combines the strength of CTY’s summer programs with the benefits of studying and living in a historically rich and important city in East Asia. HKUST’s facilities include excellent classrooms and labs, recreational facilities, and comfortable dormitory rooms. As students from across Asia take rigorous courses from a wide range of disciplines, they will be challenged academically in curriculum areas ranging from electrical engineering and computer programming to mathematical modeling and essay writing. How to Use this Web Site Please read carefully through each part of the web site. You will find plenty of information about our program and answers for many questions you may have. Qualifying through the CTY International Talent Search and Summer Programs Applications Before you can apply for CTY summer programs courses in Hong Kong, your child must first qualify. Students may qualify based on results of the World Class Test (WCT), the US College Board's SAT Reasoning Test (SAT), or the US ACT. Students may still qualify for the program taking the WCT on April 18 and 25. For information on WCT registration, go to www.worldclassarena.hk. Registration is open until March 27. Students who wish to take the SAT on May 2 may register through the CTY International Talent Search at cty.jhu.edu/ts/its.html through March 27. (Please note: This is a two step process. Students first register with CTY's International Talent Search and then register for the test itself.) Registration deadlines for the ACT in Hong Kong have passed. Detailed information about the scores students must achieve to qualify for CTY programs in the US and Hong Kong may be found at the admissions page. When you have test scores that qualify your student for the program, please follow the directions below to apply for summer classes. If you need further information, contact Katherine Kidd at kkidd@jhu.edu. There are two ways to apply for this program. The first is to apply online. Please note that if you choose this option, you cannot apply for financial aid. Once you are on the page for the online application, please check the box for CTY 7th grade and above programs. The Hong Kong application option will be on the drop down menu. The second way is to download an application form and mail or fax it to us. The fax number is on the application. If your child is applying with WCT scores, you must submit copies of your child's WCT certificate(s) of distinction. This is true whether you apply online or submit a paper application. Please email copies of of the WCT certificates to susiem@jhu.edu or fax them to 410-735-6105. If you receive an email saying your child is not eligible for the program, please contact Katherine Kidd at kkidd@jhu.edu and she will resolve the problem. If you plan on applying for financial aid, you need to download a financial aid application form. The financial aid form must be included with the program application.
