Descartes' Cove Math Series: Number & Operations

The Sailing Ship

NCTM Standards for Number and Operations, Grades 6-8

  • Understand numbers, ways of representing numbers, relationships among numbers, and number systems
  • Understand meanings of operations and how they relate to one another
  • Compute fluently and make reasonable estimates
The sinking ship in the Cove's waters holds treasures, but you must work through the problem on the ship's wheel to explore them.

Look through the Captain's library, then enter the enchanting music room where you can play the instruments yourself. The harpsichord is not quite what it seems....

Solve the problems scattered throughout the ship, earning gold coins and collecting valuable items along the way.

Reaching the lowest decks, you can see the fish swimming in the Cove's warm waters through the portholes. Be careful as you move forward from here...the ship may not be seaworthy any longer.
