Grades 7 - 12 Qualifying verbal or math score and successful completion of Chinese Language Basic, Part I or equivalent 0.5 credit
Chinese Language, Basic, Part II (formerly Beginning Chinese Basic, Part II) enables students to learn how to talk about quotidian activities such as school, afterschool activities, birthdays, dating, making telephone calls, going on interviews, reviewing for exams, etc. In the process, students will learn not only the language, but also learn about real daily conversations spoken by Chinese people in mainland China. This course still has a strong focus on grammar, listening, reading, and writing, in addition to the introduction of culture. Successful completion of Chinese Language, Basic, Parts I and II, prepares students for the second year of Chinese language study. Students interact with the instructors and other students using Internet-based software. The course materials include a textbook, workbook, and CD-ROM. The tentative schedule for online interactive sessions is:
Monday and Wednesday, from 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm (EST); or Tuesday and Thursday, from 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm (PST). This schedule may be adjusted in the future. Separate conversation sessions between each student and the instructor or teaching assistant are arranged individually. 12 weeks
