What is WebCT?

WebCT is the name of a leading course management system. Most CTY Distance Writing web-based classrooms use WebCT.

Troubleshooting

Firewalls

If you have a firewall (all cable modem, dsl users do), you need to put WebCT and the CTY website in your firewall's Trusted Zone. Never disable your firewall.

Internet Explorer

If you are using Internet Explorer (IE) 6.x, put the jhu.edu domain in IE's trusted zone. Click Tools, Internet Options, Security, Trusted Sites, Sites. In the Add box, type jhu.edu Enter exactly as below.

add jhu.edu to trusted zone in Internet Explorer

Click Add, then OK.

Now, click Privacy, Sites, and in the Address of Web Site box, type jhu.edu and click Allow. Click OK twice.

Popup Blockers

Many course management systems use popup windows.

  • put jhu.edu in the popup blocker's list of trusted or allowed sites
  • only disable your popup blocker as a last resort (and notify adults that you do so)
  • always re-enable popup blockers when your WebCT session is done

If you still have technical problems, please email for help.
