CTYOnline - Honors Biology

Prerequisites: Qualifying math score and completion of Life Science or equivalent and Algebra I
Recommended School Credit: 1.0 credit
Individually Paced

CTY's individually paced high school science courses help students learn complex biology and chemistry concepts using a dynamic online environment that includes 3D animations and audio-narration. Students review and apply new knowledge through the use of activities and applications. Practice tests provide instant feedback and preparation for exams and projects. A virtual laboratory component is included in this series.

Honors Biology covers topics typically covered in a high school biology course and prepares students for Advanced Placement Biology. Students study the structures, functions, and processes of living organisms and their interactions with the environment. Major themes include cell structure and specialization, energy and chemistry of life, genetics and evolution, diversity of life, plant systems, and ecology. Students learn complex biological concepts through interactive web-based lectures and applications, and knowledge is assessed through quizzes, tests, and projects.

System Requirements

All CTY Online courses require a properly-maintained computer with Internet access and a recent-version web browser (such as Explorer 6, Firefox, or Safari). Students are expected to be familiar with standard computer operations (e.g. login, cut & paste, email attachments, etc).

This course requires high-speed Internet access (such as Cable or DSL) for online lesson videos. Your browser will need to allow javascript, login cookies, and popup windows from ctyjhu.org, ctyonline.org, and any other course web sites.

This course requires Authorware Web Player version 6 which is only available for MS Windows. Consequently, it is not compatible with Mac. Authorware may require additional configuration to operate with Internet Explorer 7 or Windows Vista.
