Kate Treatman Clark decided at the age of four that she wanted to be a paleontologist, mainly because she loved to play with rocks and dig in the dirt. She never wavered in her goals, and after receiving her B.A. from Harvard, she headed off to some of the wildest places on Earth. In Madagascar she studied the critically endangered golden bamboo lemur, and in Indonesia she spent months chasing macaques and orangutans through the jungle. Kate has taught at a variety of universities, including Harvard and Stonybrook, but her favorite teaching experiences have been at CTY. Kate taught Paleobiology for CTY summer programs from 1999 to 2004. At CTY, Kate met the brightest and most enthusiastic paleontologists any teacher could hope for, as well as a brilliant cryptography instructor whom she married in 2003. Kate received her Ph.D. from Stonybrook University in 2006 and is the recipient of numerous teaching and research awards, including the Harvard Committee for Undergraduate Education's Award for Excellence in Teaching and a Fulbright Award for research in Indonesia.
