James Taylor started his teaching career with one of the most pleasant teaching experiences possible: three summers as a teaching assistant with the CTY summer program. While a graduate student at Rutgers University, he was a teaching assistant for all the various college calculus courses and during the summers he was the lecturer for first and second year college mathematics courses. After receiving his mathematics Ph.D. from Rutgers, he taught at Iowa State University and then at Marymount University where his courses covered the spectrum of undergraduate mathematics, from College Algebra to senior-level math courses. In addition to helping the students in his class, he has also privately tutored many high school and college students. Over the years, he has learned that helping students understand the material and get past the blind spots is both the most enjoyable and the most useful part of a teacher's job. |
