What is CTY-MAPS? When is MAPS held? Who can apply to CTY-MAPS? Information for teachers MAPS is a fun, intensive Saturday math academy for bright 8th graders and their families. Thanks to a generous grant from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, the program is free. MAPS is a very special opportunity for students to enhance their math and reasoning skills, meet other bright students, get a head start on high school, and explore college and career opportunities—all in the state-of-the-art facilities at the Tiger Woods Learning Center (www.twlc.org). The academy has 20 students and 4 teachers. This low student-teacher ratio gives students the chance to learn exactly what they need to in small groups and individual tutoring. Students also have field trips and special guest presentations (from the fields of chemistry, engineering, astronomy, etc). Families are invited to a weekly parent coffee hour and are invited to guest presentations. All MAPS students who qualify for a CTY/CAA summer program in 2008 will be offered a scholarship. Back to top MAPS is held every Saturday from September 8, 2007 through January 26, 2008—except for November 24 and December 29. Here is the daily schedule: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. | Students have small group math classes; individual math tutoring; games, puzzles, and brainteasers; SAT practice tests; team building; college and career sneak previews; and special presentations. | | 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. | Parents and guardians have a coffee hour, led by a facilitator, to discuss issues related to parenting bright middle school students. Resources and possible discussion topics are provided.
